I'm sure it's well done, but has anyone pointed out how similar the plot is to the move, "The Running Man" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger? Good action movie from the 80s.
From what I read of the plot for these books, they are extremely similar. But the Running Man was a classic, so I'm not surprised it's resonating three decades later.

Well I hadn't actually heard of that movie. I knew about the book (I love Steven King) but like most of his books I was oblivious to the fact that there was a movie for it. I don't watch many movies at all, it's kind of embarrassing how many I haven't seen that I should have.
But back on topic - I read up on the movie, and while it's quite different, the setting is very similar.

I tried to read the first book, but I really dislike this series for some reason. I could never get into it >>

Could you explain what you didn't like about it? There has to be something...
My brother is someone who couldn't get into it either. He said that he hated it because he thought the main character was a guy for the whole first chapter or something like that. He said something about not liking her braid and that she looked, in his mind, like a Native American. Honestly I don't understand his reasoning, I think it's mostly because he doesn't like that she's a girl acting like a guy. I explained that it was because she had to take over for his father and he just made a face. I think he's being pretty sexist and overly judgmental of Katniss after reading such a small bit, but he's a teenage boy...whatcha gonna do? =P

Could you explain what you didn't like about it? There has to be something... It just didn't catch my interest. I read up until they entered the arena (or something) in fancy flaming suits. It wasn't bad, just not interesting. And I heard after that it's nothing but action, and me being not the biggest action fan, I haven't really wanted to pick it up again. I may try to read it if I get bored and find something more likable, but for now I'm just going to guess that it's not my type of book.

You don't like action? Well then I'd say it probably isn't your book either. It's pretty violent, but I certainly wouldn't say it's nothing but action. I won't give anything away, but there is much more than that going on.

I agree. My sister tried to read it, she never got into it very much. Its hard to classify but I think that THG is probably fantasy. I think that maybe even though there is that fantasy element in the books, In my opinion its not that strong but because I love fantasy I probably overlooked it as normal. But to somebody who doesn't like that it could come as across as weird and depending on the reader some people just cant get their heads around it eg. My sister. That didn't make any sense what so ever, oh well. XDD « Post Merged: Aug 1, 2010, 1:33:44am » And this is completely irrelevant but whenever I think of movie!Katniss I seem to think of Susan from Narnia.

Really? Whenever I think of her I don't have a specific actress in mind, but it's very different from Susan. She's described as having olive skin, so I think rather tan, with long dark brown hair. I imagine her face and lips a lot thinner than Susan's as well.

Katniss is definitely much different than Susan and I definitely hope they are not too similar. I didn't mean personality wise so much as the whole Braid, Bow and Arrow and fighting things. :PPPP

I have just been on my monthly stalk of HungerGamesTrilogy.com here's some interesting points I found: I had to restrain myself before I went looking for spoilers, I promised myself I wouldn't read any spoilers. At all. Or flip and read the the last page before I even start the book. XDDD

I gave in, I just read them. xD They actually make sense! Good find. ;D I have a couple of theories of what's going to happen in Mockingjay. Me and my sister in law have a feeling that Peeta, if not killed, is going to be made into an Avox. :| Though I hope this doesn't happen. Just re-reading the first book now (then the second) ready for next Thursday! So excited. « Post Merged: Aug 21, 2010, 2:05:22pm » Little tidbit of a spoiler for Mockingjay:
